An Abundance of Skeletons

Updated: May 6

This month we are exploring the light within the shadows. We tend to have an idea that the shadows and the dark are bad. (for more of my thoughts on this idea, check out my blog post, "All Light All the Time") But this is not true. If it is ALL God, which we in Science of Mind believe it is... then the shadows must be God. The darkness must be God. The hardest-day-of-my-life must be God. There really is no other option. So when we talk about the Light with in the Shadows, what we are really talking about is the blessings that occur in the darkness. The good bits of life that are only accessible when we are willing to set down our preconceived notions of "good" and "bad", step away from the bright parts of life, and explore the unknown parts that we have been keeping in a closet.

Being willing to explore these parts of ourselves requires curiosity, courage, and resilience, but it is so worth it. The more we can open the closets of our hearts and let our skeletons come tumbling out for the whole world to see (or at least our closest friends and loved ones) the more we can venture into the darkness without fear, knowing there is nothing that can harm us. What we find when we let the skeletons out is that the shame clinging to the bones can no longer fester and grow in the light. Suddenly we see the skeletons for what they are, just bones, and we can look into the back of the closet and see the blessings available to us when we push aside the clutter and look in the shadows.

It might be a little dusty back there, but we are likely to find treasure worth more than it's weight in gold. And with every closet we explore, we find more freedom, more joy, more light, and more blessings. It really is a win-win for all, including the skeletons (they don't particularly love the shame that can fester on them in the dark either).

So, it is time to refresh our understanding of light, of darkness, and of life. It is time to turn away from the light and peer into the shadows, shifting our fear into anticipation, our worry into wonder, and our disregard into curiosity. It is time to explore the Light in the Shadows and find all of the hidden marvels that are just waiting for us to become just slightly more aware of the wholeness of our being.
